Marquetry is the exciting art of veneer and inlay. Veneer is a significant part of both historic pieces and the contemporary furniture industry. Whether it is repair or custom fabrication, there are many factors to address: wood movement, glue failure, timber choice. Trained in classical veneer and inlay techniques, we conserve and restore your cherished pieces with broken veneers, as well as manufacture custom veneer and marquetry pieces.
Boulle Marquetry
Boulle marquetry is the unusual combination of shell, horn, ebony and brass. While the French cabinet-maker Andre-Charles Boulle popularized the form, this veneer and marquetry style is not uniquely French. Because of the immense restoration work required for conserving Boulle pieces, we only provide estimates for Boulle-style treatments after in-person assessments.
